What Does AKC Pet Insurance Cover?

There’s only one base plan on offer, the Accidents and Illness Coverage plan, but it protects everything you should ever need it to.

Your furry friends are covered for the following conditions: hypothyroidism, allergies, toxin ingestion, ACL injuries, digestive issues, cancer, broken bones, IVDD, and UTIs.

AKC Pet Insurance also reimburses costs for diagnostic treatments performed by your chosen vet, emergency hospital or clinic.

X-ray and ultrasounds, prescription medications, emergency care, lab tests, physical therapy, CT scans, MRI scans, and surgery are all included.

While there’s only one base plan on offer, it’s fully customizable to meet your individual needs and budget.

If you’re looking for preventative protection, you can purchase Wellness Coverage on top of your base plan.

This covers a wellness exam every year, microchipping, rabies, deworming, heartworm tests, flea/tick prevention, and vaccinations, with teeth cleaning for dogs and cats as well neutering available for an additional cost as part of the DefenderPlus add-on.

AKC Pet Insurance Reimbursement and Deductibles

You can choose between 70%, 80%, and 90% reimbursement options and all policies have an annual deductible, although wellness coverage isn’t subject to the deductible.

    AKC Pet Insurance Waiting Period

Once your insurance has started, there’s a waiting period of 14 days and just two days for accidents.

Claims can be submitted online and all reimbursements are paid within three to five working days of receipt.

How Much Does AKC Pet Insurance Cost?

On average, costs can range from anywhere between $10 to $60 a month, depending on the level of protection you want in your plan.

We’d suggest visiting the AKC website to get a free quote for your pet.

The Wellness Coverage is available in two options: Defender and DefenderPlus.

Defender costs $16 per month on top of your plan and DefenderPlus costs $26 per month, adding a massive $535 to your annual plan.

    Customer Service and Satisfaction

Our Rating – How Pawsome is AKC Pet Insurance?

AKC Pet Insurance provides a lot to keep your pets safe but it’s important to check your plan’s contract as there’s a lot of information hidden away in the small print.

If you’re shopping for quotes, we’d recommend PetPremium for its one-day waiting periods and exclusive access to its breeder directory.

Healthy Paws has a lot of great offers at the time of writing and processes 99% of its claims within an impressive two days.

If you have a pet that goes through a lot of medication, Pet Assure might be your best bet, as subscriptions include a 15% discount on medications ordered from PetCareRX.com.
